You Won't Keep Me Down
03:21
|
|||
You won't keep me down, you won't keep me down. Go ahead and try, put me in the ground, but you won't keep me down.
My daddy helped teach me what it takes to be a man.
My daddy helped teach me what it takes to be a man.
He said, "work yourself hard and keep your head down,
But don't let them bring you down."
My momma helped teach me what it means to be good
Said bad people out there gonna spin your head round
But don’t let the bring you down
Preacher man taught me to fear the wrath of God
Preacher man taught me to fear the wrath of God
Said love your neighbor when you look around,
But don’t let them bring you down.
The more I know, the more I want to love
The more I know, the more I want to love
Big man try to spread hate around, but I
Won’t let it bring me down

The Dogs of Quito
04:03
|
|||
A street rat stops on a moonlit night, wondering where to go
Bottles smash, street lights flick, and time seems to slow
Fireworks over Old Town tonight, Lighting up the square
His heart beats harder as he notices Ana, the girl with the long brown hair.
And the Dogs of Quito are howlin’ in a fight like there’s no tomorrow
And the rest of the world is watching, in a trance of pain and sorrow
The underbelly scrounges round the street, just lookin for something to eat,
Still the Dogs of Quito howl on and on and on
Ana makes her way through the moonlit night, and there’s magic in the air
She can feel tonight that she won’t be alone, and tosses back her hair
Fireworks burst through the Andean air, the world is covered in light
She sees him there and knows for sure, tonight will be the night
And in this hellhole, could love survive? Would it flourish, would it die?
The answer lies beneath the fireworks, lighting up the sky.
And old man smiles as he hears the noise of bottles smashing round
Reminding him of days of long gone by, he’s transported by the sound
To a night like this, so long ago, with fireworks in the air
And he thinks of her like she was then, the girl with the long brown hair

Truth Be Told
03:20
|
|||
Mediocre coffee in a Styrofoam cup
Take a deep breath, look around and pull my head up
Couple hundred miles left before the day is through
Takin’ to the street to find what I’m supposed to do.
Truth be told, I’m a long way from home, yeah.
Truth be told, I ain’t goin’ back.
Truth be told, don’t know where you might find me,
But it sure as hell won’t be with all the rest.
Tired tires screamin’ down the I-95
Lookin’ for a way to make myself feel alive
City at the end could hold all of my dreams
Don’t know if it will or not the answer’s still unseen
Oh, all day, the boss man’s giving me hell
Oh, all night, gonna drive right out of this cell,
Ah, tired, of the lies that are keepin us down
I’m runnin’ for the truth I know can be found, woahhhhhh

She Lifts Me Up
04:46
|
|||
A cup of coffee in bed, notebook by my side
And she just watches me, her love she cannot hide
She doesn’t know that this song will be for her
And how she makes the bad days go by like a blur
And I’ll show her my love each and every day
She lifts me up (x2)
Her love’s like sunshine on a cold and rainy day
The shadows in my head she pierces like a ray
The little things she does, they take away my blues
The colors of my world are always hers to choose.
And I’ll show her my love each and every day.
And she makes me want to be all that she deserves

The Last Town
04:37
|
|||
He rides up looks around
Takes a minute he knows this town
Grabs a drink local bar
Kids pull up eye his car
They can tell he’s new he gives a nod
They eye him close a lightning rod
It’s all the same puts his drink down
He knows it’s just like the Last Town
The Last Town, woah
He hits the road Dressed in black
Pulling out He won’t look back
Getting dark The sun is low
He doesn’t mind It’s time to go
The Last Town.
I’m lookin for God knows where
Just need the feel of wind in my hair
God knows what I’m lookin’ for
Another town Another door
So I ride up Look around
Take a minute I know this town
It’s all the same Put my drink down
And keep on lookin For the Last Town
The Last Town.

Love (Sin Amor, Nada)
06:03
|
|||
I said to her, “why do I feel like all the world’s gone bad?”
She said “I don’t know darlin’, that’s the same feelin’ I’ve had.”
But I think, who gets to decide what is right and what is wrong?
Who gets to choose the notes that I put in my song?
So I’ll live my life like I try to write my tunes:
With love strong enough to lasso you the moon.
Love (Sin amor, nada)
She said to me, “why would you bring the moon down from where it belongs?”
I said, “I know you love it, is just to bring you a gift so wrong?”
She said, “I love it how it is, in its place up in the sky,
You can’t just change the nature of things, some things you cannot buy.”
I said to her, “aah, there it is, there’s the answer to the question that we seek,
The hands that hold the purse will do no good when the world’s inherited by the meek.”
There is nothing more important than the love that’s in the soul,
Every person has a value more than silver, more than gold.
If love does not exist then nothing else will ever be,
Your soul weighed down by golden coins will drag you to the sea
And when the sea is cleared by the mighty hand of God,
Your soul will lay there like a useless lightning rod
And when you finally realize there’s no money up above,
You’ll see the truth that there is nothing more in life than love.
